To help you find the answer
you are looking for quickly, we have created this Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ) guide. To contact Defenders of Wildlife, please see our contact
information at the bottom of this page.
What is YouWild.org?
YouWild.org is a project of
Defenders of Wildlife, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting
endangered wildlife and the habitat it needs to survive.
The goal of YouWild.org is
to engage and educate people about the continuing threat to wolves,
tigers and other imperiled wildlife. Visitors to the site can morph
themselves -- or a friend, family member or pet -- into an imperiled
animal of their choice. (Per our Terms of Use, visitors
must ask friends or family members for their permission before morphing
their photo.)
By offering a fun way to learn
about imperiled wildlife, we hope to encourage folks to help save these
beloved critters and protect our vanishing wild places.
What is Defenders of Wildlife's mission?
Defenders of Wildlife is a national, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities. We focus our programs on what scientists consider two of the most serious environmental threats to the planet: the accelerating rate of extinction of species and the associated loss of biological diversity and habitat alteration and destruction. Long known for our leadership on endangered species issues, Defenders of Wildlife also advocates new approaches to wildlife conservation that will help keep species from becoming endangered. Our programs encourage protection of entire ecosystems and interconnected habitats while protecting predators that serve as indicator species for ecosystem health.
What can I do to help save imperiled wildlife?
Plenty. First, sign our
petition urging the Bush Administration to
make protecting wildlife a real priority before it's too late. Next,
you can help us spread the word
by telling friends, family members,
neighbors and co-workers about YouWild.org. Finally, you can help
support Defenders of Wildlife's work
with your tax-deductible contribution.
How are animals selected for YouWild?
Each animal has been selected
to highlight ongoing threats to wildlife and provide an interesting
means of engaging people in the important work of wildlife conservation.
Can I suggest a new animal?
Certainly, but it may be a while before we add new animals to the website. Just email your suggestion to youwild@mail.defenders.org, and we'll see what we can do in future updates to this site.
Step 1. Choose an Animal
How do I get started?
Just visit the homepage and
select your animal from the sliding menu of animal photos at the bottom
of the page.
Step 2. Choose a Photo
Why does it take so long for my photo to upload?
Please be patient. Depending
on the size and resolution of your photo, it may take a while for the
image to upload to YouWild.org.
How do I resize the image that I have uploaded?
Just adjust the slider to the
right of your image. Moving the slider up will make the photo larger.
Moving the slider down will make the image smaller.
How do I rotate my uploaded image?
To rotate your image, just
select one of the orange arrows at the bottom of your uploaded image.
How do I adjust the position of my uploaded photo in the frame?
Just click on your image and
drag it to your desired position in the frame.
Can I morph a photo of a movie star, politician or other famous person into an animal?
YouWild's Terms of Use prohibit
the uploading of photos to which you do not hold a copyright or have
not obtained express written permission to use.
Step
3. Create Your Morph
I don't like my morph. How do I change it?
Experiment. When previewing
your morph, move the control points around on the uploaded photo and
on the animal photo until you achieve the desired effect. You can also
change the speed of your morph by adjusting the slider to the right
of your preview morph.
Step
4. Save and Share Your Morph
Can I retrieve my morph at a later date?
YouWild will create a personalized
morph page that you can send to friends or visit at any time. You can
also put a personalized web badge on your MySpace profile, website or
blog, so that you can easily access your morph later.
Why do you add text about imperiled animals to the email I send friends?
YouWild is a fun website, but
it has a mission, too: To raise awareness about imperiled species and
the need to protect them. Adding animal specific text to the email about
your morph helps us educate more people about the amazing wildlife we're
fighting to protect.
What is the YouWild Hall of Fame?
The Hall of Fame is a collection
of user-submitted morphs that we find particularly interesting. Submit
your morph, and you could win a Wildlife Sanctuary from Defenders
of Wildlife's Wildlife Adoption Center!
